The annual tech trade show, CES, is back for another\nyear where we’ll see some of the most impressive tech reveals of the year. We\ntake a closer look at exactly what CES is when it’s taking place, and who can\nattend.

What is CES?
<\/o:p><\/span><\/h2>

The Consumer\nElectronics Show (CES) is a massive annual event where some of the most\ntransformative technology makers and innovators show off their latest and\ngreatest releases. The show began in 1967 in New York City as a bi-annual event\nuntil the late 1990s. In recent years, the formerly transient show has settled\ninto Las Vegas as its home, typically at the Las Vegas Convention Center and\nother nearby hotels.

<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

The only gap in the\nlong-running string of shows happened during the COVID-19 pandemic, as CES 2021\nwas held as an exclusively digital event for the first time in its history. CES\n2020 happened just weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the world and\nwas a successful event with about 140,000 attendees.

<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

The CES event\nreturned to in-person status in 2022, but concerns over surging COVID-19\ninfection rates led many exhibitors to cancel, and the show ended one day\nearlier than initially planned. CES 2022 hosted only 45,000 attendees, a stark\ncontrast from pre-pandemic times.

In 2023, CES was\nonce again at full, in-person capacity, housing major reveals from companies\nlike Samsung, Acer, Asus, HTC, Lenovo, and more. CES 2023 included about\n115,000 attendees and vendors from 174 countries spread across 41 separate\ntechnology areas.

<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

The Consumer Technology\nAssociation (CTA) expects to host about 130,000 people for CES 2024.<\/span> <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When is CES 2024?<\/o:p><\/span><\/h2>

CES 2024 officially\nruns from Tuesday, Jan. 9, through Friday, Jan. 12 at the Las Vegas Convention\nCenter, the Venetian Expo, and the Aria Resort & Casino. There will be two\nin-person Media Days open exclusively to members of the press on Jan. 7 and 8.\nYou can expect many exhibitors to make most of their announcements when the\nshow opens on Tuesday.

Who is attending CES 2024?<\/o:p><\/span><\/h2>

Though the list of CES exhibitors is too long to include here,\nthe CTA has 311 Fortune Global 500 companies and 38 of the top global\nretailers <\/span>registered to participate<\/span> in the event. CES has a full directory of exhibitors\non <\/span>its\nwebsite<\/span>.

Many of the biggest consumer electronics companies attending CES\nare showcasing new technologies and products, but even some of the companies\nthat aren’t releasing new products will be in attendance.

CES 2024 will feature\nchipmakers like Intel, AMD, and Nvidia; mobile and home electronics companies\nlike Samsung, Google, LG, and Amazon; PC makers like Asus, and HP; and even\nnumerous automakers like BMW. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

What trends to see in CES 2024:\nwhat\u2019s next in technology?<\/span><\/h2>\n

<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/h1>

To put it all in context, here are the\nthree themes that will make the biggest impact at this year’s CES. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

\u00b7       \n<\/span><\/span>AI\nclouds everything <\/o:p><\/span><\/h2>

Any\nproduct that includes an algorithm, machine learning, or automation of any kind\nis going to be marketed as an AI-powered product at CES 2024. Make no mistake,\nthere will be plenty of AI-washing, as companies compete with each other to\nride the generative AI wave. Fortunately, there are a ton of potential benefits\nto look forward to; from products and features that will automatically\ntranslate audio and text from different languages to TV hardware that will\nimprove upscaling of low-res content for today’s amazing 4K and 8K displays to\ntruly time-saving automation in the products you use every day.

\u00b7       \n<\/span><\/span>VR,\nAR, and XR prep for a big year <\/o:p><\/span><\/h2>

The\nmetaverse may have been worthless, but mixed reality (MR), <\/span>Augmented reality (AR)<\/span><\/a><\/span>,\nand extended reality (XR) are surging on a new wave of interest, thanks in\nlarge part to Apple’s Vision Pro announcement, which has put the spotlight on\nthe next generation of immersive digital experiences. CES 2024 will feature new\nhardware and experiences that will push it to the next level. We’re expecting\nannouncements about headsets that will use Qualcomm’s new XR2+ Gen2 VR chip,\nnew sensors and software that will extend what today’s headsets and experiences\ncan do, and the latest updates on how all kinds of organizations — from health\ncare to astronauts to law enforcement to architects to product designers — are\nnow relying on VR and XR to do critical parts of their work every day. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

Of\ncourse, all of this is an introduction to the launch of the Apple Vision Pro,\nthe arrival of the Samsung\/Google XR headset, and a tidal wave of new\nexperiences from developers who will take advantage of these immersive digital\nplatforms.<\/span><\/p>\n\n
