Let\u2019s have a look at some of the most innovative inventions\nshowcased at the CES event 2024, in Oslo.

Transparent TVs by LG:

Televisions aren\u2019t naturally pretty or used as a design\nfeature, but LG Electronics is out to change that perception. Today, the consumer\ntechnology giant unveiled what its touts as \u201cthe world\u2019s first\u201d wireless\ntransparent OLED TV. The LG Signature OLED T<\/span><\/a><\/span> combines\na transparent 4K OLED screen with LG\u2019s wireless video and audio transmission\ntechnology.

Companionship \u2013 Introducing Wehead:
<\/h2>\n

<\/o:p><\/span><\/strong><\/h1>

At\nthis year’s CES, a notable innovation was introduced by an American startup: Wehead<\/span><\/a>.<\/span> This\ngroundbreaking AI companion robot presents a human-like face on a screen,\nforging a new frontier in digital interaction. My experience with Wehead was\nremarkable, engaging in conversation with an AI that seemed almost human. The\ndevelopers designed it with a noble purpose: to offer companionship to those\nwho might feel isolated or lonely.
<\/span>
Reflecting\non George Ritzer’s analysis in <\/span><\/span>‘The McDonaldization of Society<\/span><\/a>‘, <\/span>Wehead stands in\nstark contrast to the impersonal automation that has come to define modern\nservices, like those of fast-food chains, which expedite efficiency at the cost\nof human interaction.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Wehead aims to restore some of that lost connection, providing a ‘face’ and a ‘voice’ in scenarios where human contact is scarce. It’s a poignant response to the social isolation prevalent in our fast-paced world and represents a meaningful use of technology to enhance human connection.<\/span>

This is why Wehead has earned a place on my list \u2013 it’s not just about the technology itself, but about how it can serve to alleviate the loneliness that touches so many lives.<\/span>

Hyundai\nshows off its eVTOL, air taxi ambitions
<\/h2>\n

<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/h2>

Supernal\u2019s\nelectric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft got a showcase from its\nparent company Hyundai Motor Group on the ground in Las Vegas, as the so-named\nS-A2 moves closer to its planned 2028 launch for shuttling passengers. Head here for a full rundown on\nthe aircraft<\/span><\/a>,<\/span> and the challenges in expanding airborne mobility.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Samsung\nbrings back Ballie; renews green initiative<\/o:p><\/span><\/h2>

Meet the new and improved Ballie<\/span><\/a><\/span>, Samsung Electronics\nhome robot, which it previewed today. It\u2019s around the size of a bowling ball\nwith a battery designed to last two to three hours. Ballie sports a spatial\nlidar sensor to help it navigate rooms and obstacles, as well as a 1080p\nprojector with two lenses that allow the robot to project movies and video\ncalls and even act as a second PC monitor. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

Expanding beyond cute, rolling robots, Samsung showcased its wider\ninitiatives for connected homes. Aside from expected UI and feature updates for\nits existing SmartThings home automation platform, Samsung showed off a \u201cmap\nview\u201d for users that creates an interactive home map that even includes\nanimated avatars of residents and pets. <\/span><\/p>\n\n

\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/p>

 Also, Samsung\ndevoted some of its keynote speech to its commitment to sustainability<\/span><\/a><\/span>.\n\u201cWe start by incorporating recycled materials into some of our most loved\nproducts, such as recycled fishing nets in our Galaxy,\u201d said Inhee Chung, VP of\ncorporate sustainability at Samsung. \u201cSmartphones, recycled plastic in our TVs,\nand recycled aluminum in our bespoke refrigerators. Recycled plastic accounted\nfor 14% of the total plastic used in our products in 2022. And we\u2019re working\ntowards increasing this amount.\u201d

Talking,\ncolor-changing BMW:<\/h2>\n

<\/o:p><\/span><\/h2>

\u201cAutomaker BMW unveiled a\npair of concept cars under the name <\/span>BMW I Vision Dee during its CES 2023 event. The cars interact\nwith drivers through color-changing panels and a front display that creates\nsomething like facial expressions.\u201d

Remember KITT<\/strong>, the\ntalking car from Knight Rider? It’s getting closer to reality, a talking,\ncolor-changing BMW concept car displayed at CES. It will listen and respond to\ncommands from curbside, as well as remotely via a smartphone app. Plus, the\nconcept’s exterior skin is covered with new full-color E Ink technology that\ncan instantly shift between up to 32<\/strong>\ncolors, allowing you to generate patterns and multicolor schemes on the fly to\ncustomize your ride.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
